ACBA Malaysia, Cambodia & Philippines Tour 2009

The 2009 ACBA tour departs on 24 November 2009 and will visit the countries of Malaysia, Cambodia and Philippines. This year, ACBA will take a touring team of 41 strong consisting the Veterans, Dragons and the Queen Beez teams, playing games in each of the three countries. Both the senior and youth teams have commenced serious training sessions lead by the 2009 touring coach Dave Rimer. Dave Rimer is fresh from guiding the Parramatta Wildcats Mens ABA team to the Waratah title this year and is looking forward to the challenges he face on this year’s tour.

The timing of each ACBA tour coincides with the 25th World Invitation Basketball Tournament for Chinese which this year is being hosted by the coastal city of Penang, Malaysia. Over three days, the Veterans shall compete in the over-45s division against teams from China, USA, Taiwan, Indonesia and of course Malaysia.

Whilst the Veterans compete in the tournament, the Dragons and Queen Beez shall play exhibition games against the Pulau Pinang State Team and two other local representative times. After Penang, the tour moves by coach down south towards Kuala Lumpur with a stop along the way in Ipoh in the state of Perak which is also the home town of our Chairman Leon Teh. Following a game against the Perak Eagles, the tour arrives in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur which is the location for the marquee game of the tour for the Dragons and Queen Beez – a match up against the Malaysian National Team. Three days later the teams will then back up to play against a team from the neighbouring city of Malacca. The tour continues to the cities of Manila and Batangas in the Philippines where our two youth teams will play two more games.

Although this is primarily a basketball tour, there will also be plenty of opportunities to play tourist whilst the teams are not on the court. The tour will spend two days sightseeing in Cambodia including a visit to the world renown historical site of Angkor Wat, and also visit the Malacanang Palace in Manila. If you are interested in joining the 2009 touring party as a tourist please contact Leon Teh 0414 398 168.

Also check out the schedule for the tour.
