About Us

The Australian Chinese Basketball Association was incorporated in 1997 by a group of players dedicated to promoting the game of basketball both within the Asian and the wider general community in Australia.

Whilst the main goal of ACBA is to enjoy the game of basketball, some specific objectives of the Association are:

  • To promote the game of basketball and other related activities within the Australian Asian community by encouraging participation at all levels of the game
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding through events organised by the Association
  • To build networks with other basketball associations both here and around the world
  • To develop and support young talent
  • To provide an opportunity for youths to travel the world through the sport of basketball and gain from the experience
ACBA has since grown into the leading Association for the sport of basketball in the Asian community, running no less than three tournaments a year, as well as organising an annual tour at the end of the year for the veterans and women and men youth teams.

The ACBA veteran’s team has participated in the last six World Basketball Invitational Tournament for Chinese, and in the year 2000, was awarded the rights to host the tournament in Sydney. Each year, this tournament attracts over 100 teams and 2,000 players from around the world, over the four days of the tournament. Participation in this tournament has allowed the ACBA representative teams to travel to countries such as Thailand, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Singapore.

ACBA has also developed links with several associations, within Australia and internationally, which allows ACBA to host them in Sydney each Easter and participate in the CASF basketball tournament. In previous years teams have come from Brisbane, Adelaide, and Melbourne, while the Australian Boomerangs Paralympics team also participated in 2000. In November 2000, the Los Angeles Striders visited from the USA to participate in an inter-city championship – a tournament they won.

ACBA hopes to continue to grow each year, and looks for your support as we aim to fulfill our objectives.
