Emperors Garden Cup
This tournament was first held in 1997 with the support of Mr Stanley Yee, the Director of the Emperor's Garden Group, who has been a very generous sponsor of this competition, who has also pledged to continue to sponsor the tournament for an indefinite period.
In the inaugural tournament, a total of 32 basketball teams participated – 24 men’s teams in two even divisions, and 8 women’s teams. By 1999, 44 teams were competing in the tournament spread out over three men’s divisions and a women’s division. The standard had grown enough to allow for the selection of an All Star Women and Men’s team, to become the touring team for overseas tours to China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Since 1997, the Emperor's Garden Cup has grown to become the premiere basketball tournament in the Asian community. It attracts the largest number of teams and is regarded as showcasing the highest standard basketball competition in the Chinese community.
