Chinese Australian Sports Federation
ACBA has been a co-organiser of the Easter Long Weekend basketball competition since 1997. This basketball tournament is part of an Easter Sports Carnival that also includes the soccer, tennis, table tennis and badminton. Each year, the Carnival attracts between 800 and 1000 participants.
In the year 2000, the Carnival was organised by the Chinese Australian Sports Federation (CASF), a newly incorporated sports organisation which was launched in Parliament House by the organisation’s honourable patron, Mr Henry Tsang, MLC on 17 November 1999. The CASF committee is made up of specially appointed members of the Australian Chinese Basketball Association, Australian Chinese Soccer Association, NSW Chinese Tennis Association and the Wah Sing Table Tennis Academy.
Since 1997, the basketball tournament has grown from a small tournament into one that sees the participation of inter-state teams – teams now come from Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide. There is also the possibility that basketball teams from China may also come and participate in the event – particularly from Guangzhou, China.
The competition is divided into two divisions. Division One sees each city fielding two teams, while Division Two is made up teams from Sydney. The competition is conducted over three days. In the year 2000, the tournament attracted 22 teams, and was held at Auburn Basketball Stadium, Wyatt Park, Church Street, Auburn.
