Challenge Cup
Commencing in 2009, the Challenge Cup is our “Summer” basketball competition and came about due to the demand from our members for tournaments all year round. The Challenge Cup is the last tournament on the annual calendar and is focused the social aspect of the ACBA family rather than competition. There is no Premier League in this tournament as many of the players are preparing to go on tour as members of the Dragons and Tigers basketball team.
The tournament also acts as a platform for ACBA to trial rule variations including the use of “first past the post” to determine the champion for each division and also host exhibition games which act as a series of warm up games for our Dragons and Tigers basketball teams prior to their end of year tour.
The 2011 Challenge Cup was also the first tournament in ten years that ACBA hosted a women’s division and we welcome 6 teams back to the ACBA family.
